about

As a poet, Zosel recognizes stunning visual narratives when they leap out at him. Such was the case in the Summer of 2020, when a guest staying at his home recited one of his recent works, ‘The Winter of Herself.’ Its sophisticated imagery inspired him, so Zosel convinced his new friend to allow him to try it as a song. As a poet, Zosel also understands the challenge in transforming poetry to song. But with some coddling, the result is a pop-infused folk tale of a conflicted love relationship

lyrics

She looked inside the winter of herself
Where her footsteps fell, the stones turned white
Just chilling in the August night
And she shook like a leaf
Looking in my eyes - what she saw
Wasn’t right

Winter came much earlier that year
And all her hope, would turn to ice

CHORUS
She had the right to know
Where all of this might lead
She was free to go
To tell the truth - Or run away
From me

I thought that we might live contentedly
on the edge, of the world, In a hollow tree
I carved my initials on that tree
That she might read
on a summer day - and find her way
home to me

But Spring would come much earlier that year
with all her love, ratified

CHORUS
She had the right to know
Where all of this might lead
She was free to go
To tell the truth - Or run away

She was free to go
Somehow she got lost
footprints in the snow
They’d melt away - On her summer day
Near the hollow tree
