about

Not morbid or dark, ‘Brighter Sun’ is an upbeat song about contemplating one’s final resting place at Lakewood Cemetary in South Minneapolis. It’s also the reflection on a life well lived, the celebration of a lifelong love relationship, and the road leading up to all of it. It is a soft, somber pop-country-ish number, with heightened emotions fueled by warm vocal harmony and glittering guitars.

lyrics

There must be a brighter sun
for those who’ve reached the top
of the hill - off in the distance
And there should be no longing in love
but there is…I want it still
and I won’t give up, I won’t give in
There a brighter sun for me
Up on the hill

At the end of my street
Near the top of that hill, there’s a lake
off in the distance
We met long ago
never gave yourself away
But when you did - I was smitten
And there should be no longing in love
but there is…I want you still
and I won’t give up, I won’t give in
There a brighter sun for me and you
Up on the hill

And when I’m gone
You know right where to find me
In the fading sun at the top of the hill
You’ll come running - I know you will
yeah I know I will
There a brighter sun for me and you
Up on the hill

It’s a long, hard climb, but I’d never leave you behind
If I did, I’d really miss you
And there should be no longing in love
but there is…I love you still
and I won’t give up, no..not until
There a brighter sun for me and you
Up on the hill
