Zosel has in-laws in Lanesboro, MN, the tiny SE Minnesota tourist destination nestled in the picturesque bluff country on the Root River. Scott travels there frequently to find a secluded place to write and explore ideas without the distractions of work, and the city. On a recent trip in 2022, he was capturing song fragments into his phone recorder when a wifi signal appeared suddenly with the words ‘Brewster’s Red Hotel,’ a one-time local BNB, now operating under a different name. Seeing the words, ‘Brewster’s Red Hotel’ instantly inspired a vibey, rootsy chord progression, and an imaginary tale of a lifetime love affair with this tiny town. Lanesboro has a way of sneaking up on you.
lyrics
I see you in the morning glory
glory, glory, glory, hallelujah
On the avenue, where I met you
I listen to your story, story
Ain’t a girl who likes to worry, worry
Where she’s going to, never sad or blue
Near the river that leads to a wishin’ well
A place to hide when the world has gone to hell
Brewster's Red Hotel X3
In the winter always snowin’ snowin’
Cold winds always blowin, blowin, blowin
Sun shining through, when I’m with you
Outside the rivers flowin, flowin
Never knows where it’s going, going, going
Sounds like you, the day I fell
Near the river that leads to a wishin’ well
A place to hide when the world has gone to hell
Brewster's Red Hotel X4
I see you in the morning glory
glory, glory, glory, hallelujah
On the avenue, where I met you
Bridge
Up the hill where we tied the knot
See forever - from the parking lot
In the valley that time forget to tell
